When to Give the Mineral Silver to Children and Infants

July 30, 2018; by Briana McDonald (UtopiaSilver.com) Being a mom of three boys I have dealt with more owies, sky-high fevers, runny noses and hacky coughs than I can count. I probably have a gray hair to show for each! Being a mom who always tries to choose a natural approach for treating any ailment (unless it is a true medical emergency) my first line of attack is always nutrition using vitamins and minerals, including the mineral silver. It is sometimes debated whether or not killing the colon flora is problematic at such a young age so this article will go over when to give the mineral silver to children and infants.

 Scenario:
Your child has a fever of 101 or more, runny nose, and a cough. Let’s say the first thing you do is call their pediatrician and schedule an appointment. You go to the appointment and the doctor does their routine checks and confirms it is the flu or it is this or that. More than likely you will be prescribed an antibiotic (which does absolutely nothing for viruses) and will be told to alternate between Tylenol and Motrin every 4 hours to keep the fever down. Other things will be advised by mainstream doctors like loading them up on fluids such as Pedialite and of course, plenty rest.
Here’s what’s wrong with this approach:
While your instinct might be to take him/her to the doctor at the first sign of illness, there are times when staying home is safer. If you child has had a regular old cold for a few days you probably do not need to worry about taking them to a doctor. Often times hospitals and doctors offices are crawling with all sorts of harmful viruses and bacteria that you do not want to risk exposure to, especially if your little one already has a weakened immune system. Most of the time though mild illnesses do not require a doctor visit or treatment because there usually is nothing a doctor can do. However if you notice any difficulty breathing you should always get immediate medical attention.
Personal Testimony
Just to give a personal example there was a very testing time in my life as a mother when just a few weeks after giving birth to my son Jaxon, he came down with RSV, or respiratory syncytial virus, which is very serious and can even be deadly to small babies. It is essentially a “baby cold” but because infants can not get all of the excretions (very large amounts of mucus in fact) out on their own by blowing their nose or coughing it almost always requires hospitalization. Jaxon was in the children’s intensive care unit for 4 days as we watched this virus peak and finally run it’s course.
During this time I myself was sick with the flu, as well as my mother who was watching my other two children at home and guess what? They were all sick with the flu as well. Obviously I couldn’t be in two places at once so measures had to be taken at home for treatment that wouldn’t expose my other two boys to any other illnesses at a doctors office. Since there were reported cases of children in the United States at this time dying from this particular strain of the flu virus and schools being shut down across the nation I did not take this lightly. Every medical professional I spoke to said to me over and over again “The virus just has to run it’s course. There isn’t anything you can do.” They said this about my infant son hooked up to a breathing machine and a feeding tube and also about my other boys home with high fevers and achy bodies. The virus just had to run it’s course. Period.
So what do you do?
At the first sign of sickness be it a runny nose or a cough or even if you just notice your child not wanting to eat or being more fussy than usual it’s always a good idea to start loading their little bodies up with nutrients that are going to help boost their immune system and fight off infection.
Investing in a quality liquid mineral & vitamin formula such as Intrakid would be one of the best things you could do and it can really help to keep them from getting sick in the first place. You can also begin dosing your child with Colloidal Silver which is going to not only boost their immune response but fight off viruses and harmful bacteria that could be making them feel bad. Colloidal silver is not only a natural and safe antibiotic, but a potent anti-viral as well.
Colloidal Silver’s ability to control antibiotic-resistant superbugs is truly amazing. In the 1980’s Larry C. Ford, MD, documented over 650 different disease causing pathogens that were destroyed in minutes when exposed to small amounts of silver. (1) And in 2011 the National Institute of Health took 100 children under the age of 12 suffering from the common cold and nasal congestion and assigned them into two groups: the first group was treated with a solution of colloidal silver and beta glucan, and the second was with saline solution. Even though both groups benefited from the treatment, 90% of the people in the colloidal silver group completely recovered! (2)

Dosing Info for Using Silver For Infants & Children:
For Colds & Flu:
There is not a specific dosing as every child is different and can respond differently but as a general rule of thumb it is recommended to use a 1/4 of the adult serving. For an infant younger than 6 months I would only give a drop or two under the tongue or mixed in with one of their bottles. If an infant is fed by breast milk, the mothers body is already doing it’s job by sending out antibodies to boost their immune system through her milk.
For children 2 years and older, I personally fill a dropper full of Colloidal Silver and give them that dosage every 3 hours for at least 3 to 4 days depending on the severity of their illness. Then I will lessen it to twice a day for a few days, then just once a day there after.
When To Give Medicine (And when to not)
Remember first and foremost our immune systems are amazing at fighting off infections. Fevers are simply a healthy, natural response to an invader. Whether due to a viral or bacterial infection, the rise in temperature can kill the bad guys off. So, in point, a fever is not something to fear and there is no rush to give your child Tylenol or Motrin. In some cases these medications can cause Steven-Johnson Syndrome which is extremely painful and sometimes life threatening. Drugs that can cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome include:
  • anti-gout medications such as allopurinol
  • medications to treat seizures and mental illness
  • pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, IB, others) and naproxen sodium (Aleve).
  • Medications to fight infection, such as penicillin
Of course there are times if a fever is 105 or higher and remains high for a period of time without dropping that you would want to intervene with cold towels or ice packs. If this doesn’t work rather quickly, then they may need emergency hospitalization.

For Pink Eye/ Ear Infections:

Give 1-2 drops into eyes every few hours for pink eye until symptoms go away.

1-2 drops or sprays can help disinfect any wound or sore by applying onto a band aid.

5 drops can be added into a neti pot or sprayed directly into the nose using a nasal sprayer. (3)
