April 10, 2017; By Briana McDonald (Silver Bulletin e-News Magazine) In a recent study published in Hypertension Research, researchers found that when taking 340mg of Magnesium and 3 grams of Taurine daily over a two week period there was an increase in endothelial progenitor cells and a decrease in free radicals. You can use Taurine and Magnesium for heart health as a preventative along with regular exercise and a healthy diet to keep your most precious and vital organ working like the well oiled machine it is intended to be.
What are Progenitor Cells + Free Radicals?
- Progenitor cells come from stem cells and serve an array of functions in repairing and maintaining tissues throughout the human body.
- Free radicals are atoms or groups of atoms with an odd (unpaired) number of electrons and can be formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules. Once formed these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction, like dominoes. To prevent free radical damage the body has a defense system of antioxidants. Daily supplementation of magnesium and Taurine aid in your body’s natural abilities to defend itself from free radical damage.
Taurine is a Sulfur-containing antioxidant amino acid that protects against free radical damage to cells, aids in osmoregulation (maintenance of proper concentrations of ions) inside the cell, membrane stabilization, sperm motility, bile acid conjugation, neurotransmission and boosts athletic performance.
Taurine is found in large amounts in the brain, retina, heart, and blood cells called platelets.
Magnesium activates over 300 enzyme reactions in the body, translating to thousands of biochemical reactions happening on a constant basis daily. Magnesium is crucial to nerve transmission, muscle contraction, blood coagulation, energy production, nutrient metabolism and bone and cell formation.
Magnesium deficiency is often misdiagnosed because it does not show up in blood tests – only 1% of the body’s magnesium is stored in the blood. Dr. Norman Shealy’s stated, “Every known illness is associated with a magnesium deficiency” and that, “magnesium is the most critical mineral required for electrical stability of every cell in the body. A magnesium deficiency may be responsible for more diseases than any other nutrient.”
Regenerating the endothelial lining of our arteries has huge potential in reducing atherosclerosis incidence, and the great thing is Taurine and Magnesium are low cost nutrients! Using Taurine and Magnesium for heart health is not only easy and effective it’s cheap!
