( We are in an energy crisis, and I don’t just mean our monthly electric bills. I mean the daily crashes, deep plunges of exhaustion we feel at times we can never pull ourselves out of and the mental fog that surrounds us. Our bodies are one of the most perfectly constructed instruments on God’s green earth, but every now and then they malfunction. Not because of imperfect grand design but because of mankind’s processed foods, chemicals, and the toxic environments in which we live that throw us off balance. We can have more energy with Iodine, and I’ll explain why.

Iodine is an essential trace element, so we do not necessarily need a ton of it to function properly but if we don’t have enough we can experience a full range of health issues. Creating healthier habits every day can prevent a lot of health problems for us down the road. One of these habits I feel should revolve around protecting our thyroid gland. Our thyroid gland is responsible for storing 60% of iodine in our bodies and also sets our metabolic rate. In fact, without iodine, thyroid hormones could not be synthesized.

Your metabolic rate affects the efficiency and efficacy of many of your body’s organ systems and regular processes, including absorption of food, sleep cycles, and the transformation of food into usable energy. See how this is all interconnected? You will have more energy with iodine because without it, your thyroid would not be able to function properly creating a much slower metabolism which then leads to a reduced ability to break down food and supply the body with the energy it needs. Everything is connected. Other negative side effects from not having enough iodine in your body are frustration, depression, mental retardation, poor perception levels, goiter, abnormal weight gain, decreased fertility, and coarse skin, chances of still birth in expectant mothers, constipation and fatigue.

Not only will you have more energy with Iodine, but you will also have healthier nails, hair and teeth. You will also have a healthier immune system, reproductive system, improved cognitive abilities, and balanced hormones. Natural sources for iodine are found in salt, sea vegetables, cranberries, organic yogurt, navy beans, organic cheese, and potatoes. If you do not like any of the above mentioned foods you can always supplement as well and have more energy with iodine.
