Identifying the Hidden Dangers of MSG

(UtopiaSilver.com) MSG stands for monosodium glutamate, a food flavor enhancer that’s also a neurological toxin. Manufactured free glutamate, or glutamic acid, is a dangerous excitotoxin. Ironically, bound glutamate, which is still attached to protein is benign – a minor byproduct of a plant’s metabolism. Apparently that justifies the food industry to use the label “natural” for its synthetic excitotoxins. Labels cannot be trusted, so we must resort to identifying the hidden dangers of MSG.

However, synthetic glutamic acid or free glutamate is an excitotoxin that appears in larger more difficult to metabolize quantities when used as a food additive. Furthermore, sometimes carcinogenic chemicals are used in the process of manufacturing synthetic free glutamate.

According to Doctor Russel Blaylock MD, author of Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills, excitotoxins literally excite brain cells to death! He has found that in addition to obesity, several neurological disorders come about as a result of long term aspartame or MSG excitotoxin consumption.

MSG or anything with synthetic free glutamate kills brain cells in the hypothalamus and has been linked to migraines, seizures, ADD/ADHD, heart palpitations and is now officially officially linked to obesity and disorders associated with metabolic syndrome including progressive liver disease.

How Excitoxins Gradually Destroy Your Brain and Your Body

Excitotoxins are amino acids that also serve as neurotransmitters in the brain. The nervous system needs amino acid neurotransmitters to operate. But when the dose is too high or builds from excessive daily intake, these amino acids cross the blood brain barrier and excite the neurons of brain cells to a point of absolute exhaustion. Then those brain neurons eventually die.

As one consumes MSG or the excitotoxin aspartame over time, there is a formaldehyde byproduct from metabolizing these toxic ingredients. The formaldehyde binds with cellular DNA and causes DNA damage. It tends to stick to the DNA and over time the formaldehyde accumulation causes massive cell damage, which breeds diseases of all sorts, even cancer.

Within the brain and throughout the nervous system, heart, and intestinal tract there are glutamate receptors or channels. So it is not only the brain that is affected by excitotoxins over time. If one is lacking in glutamate or other excitoxin protection naturally, consuming a large quantity of MSG or aspartame at one time can result in an immediate negative physical reaction.

The constant increase of MSG, or its essential active ingredient over the past 60 years in our food chain has corresponded with the surge of type 2 diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer`s, Parkinson`s Disease, and other forms of neurological disorders. Even dementia, which is usually attributed to old age, can be traced to long term excitoxin exposure.

MSG is used liberally in all fast food places as well as in many better sit-down restaurants. Even Chinese food restaurants that claim no added MSG cannot promise there is no MSG or free glutamate under a different name in the products they use to prepare the food.

The food industry loves it because it enhances flavor in cheap foods cheaply. And it creates a sensation that stimulates further craving for the food that contains it. Remember that potato chip ad some time ago – “betcha can’t eat just one”!

Food Industry Deception Encouraged by the FDA

The FDA considers MSG and aspartame GRAS (generally recognized as safe), despite the high numbers of consumer adverse reaction reports.

All the snack foods and most packaged foods even those found in health food stores, contain at least one form of disguised free glutamate – in other words, MSG with another name. You see, according to labeling legislation, if any additive containing the essential active ingredient of MSG, glutamic acid or free glutamate, is less than 78%, it doesn’t have to be labeled MSG.

This is a deceptive technicality, because the only the product known as MSG contains over 78% free glutamate. But free glutamate itself is the danger. Whether there is 70% or 80% glutamate in any given ingredient, one is consuming a dangerous chemical.

Some of the disguises for glutamate are among several favorable terms, some of which are actually accurate descriptions of separating glutamate from bound protein and making free glutamate, which is toxic.

Some of the glutamate or glutamic acid disguises are hydrolyzed vegetable or soy protein, natural flavor, artificial flavor, spice, calcium or sodium caseinate, yeast extract, and more. For a more detailed list of hidden MSG names, go to Truth in Labeling’s “Hidden Names for MSG”.

By the way, MSG and aspartame are also used in many vaccines. Right, excitotoxins injected straight into infants’ bodies. Not to hard for that to get through the blood-brain barrier. Not so good for older folks either.

Detoxing MSG

First avoid MSG and all the Trojan Horse covers to get your body starting to eliminate it as you drink more purified water. Then boost your magnesium intake, the master mineral that’s involved in more than 300 cellular metabolic processes.

Research seems to indicate that Ginko Baloba also protects against excitoxicity. Omega 3 fatty acids also block excitoxins while repairing cellular damage. Fish oils seem to be the best source of Omega 3 for this specific purpose, according to Dr. Russel Blaylock

Red Clover is basically an herb that is inexpensive and available as leaves for tea, in tinctures, liquid extracts, and capsules. Zinc also helps obstruct the glutamate receptor channels from excessive excitotoxin absorption. Many in our society today are zinc deficient.

To enhance and ensure detoxification, Dr. Blaylock recommends Milk Thistle and Dandelion to help the liver eliminate all toxins. Curcumin is the essential ingredient of turmeric. It enhances bile flow as well as DNA repair enzymes. He also recommends Taurine, an amino acid that contains sulfur to aid the liver, as well as vitamins B1 and B6 and vitamins C and E.
