April 20, 2017; By: Briana McDonald (Silver Bulletin e-News Magazine) Many products we come into contact with in our daily lives have orange oil, also known as “sweet orange oil” properties mixed in to aid in cleansing and creating a warm aroma that undeniably works wonders. From kitchen cleaners to face washes and shampoos, we’ve come to know and love the potent healing and cleansing properties of this fragrant fruit. In fact, you really can glow from the inside out with orange oil since it works both as an amazing skin tonic when used topically and also promotes urination and eliminates toxins when used internally.
The essential oil is extracted by cold compression from the peels of the orange and it’s healing compounds such as Alpha Pinene, Citronellal, Genanial, Sabinene, Myrcene, Limonene, Linalool and Neral (try saying that three times fast) work wonders for the mind, skin, hair, and internal organs.
The oil extracted from oranges provides quick and effective relief from inflammation, whether internal or external. Regardless of reason, it’s known to reduce the irritation from the onset of fevers, spices, gas, or of toxic substances/narcotics. It has even been known to greatly reduce knee pain.
This means that the compounds in the oil help to remove excess gas from the intestines. Gas, which forms in the intestines and pushes upwards, can be very annoying. Since it moves upwards, it pushes up on the internal organs and can create chest pain, indigestion and discomfort. It can also end up raising your blood pressure which has a negate affect for your heart health and can onset acute stomach aches. The essential orange oil can help with many of these ailments since it soothes and relaxes the abdominal and anal muscles, letting the gas escape. It also keeps additional gas from forming.
Reduces Anger and Depression
The warm aroma of orange oil helps to calm the nervous system and tends to remind us of happy moments and brings in pleasant thoughts and memories. This may be why it is so commonly used for aromatherapy. If you have a healthy frame of mind, you will be sure to have an even healthier body as everything is interconnected.
Let’s face it; breakouts make us feel exposed, vulnerable and slightly depressed. Managing breakouts can be stressful, but rather than treating zits as they surface, we can incorporate a healthy morning routine with orange oil that can prevent future zits from ever occurring in the first place. Due to its wonderful antibacterial properties, it keeps the skin clear of bacteria that can cause outbreaks. Here is a simple orange oil toner to apply every morning when you wake up, and the warm aroma also makes for a brighter day!
- ½ cup witch hazel
- 10 drops orange essential oil
Add Ingredients to a clean jar close with a tight fitting lid and shake to blend.
I hope this article helps you to glow from the inside out with orange essential oil, and sparks your creative desires to blend it with other citrus oils for an even more potent affect! A small word of caution to leave you with; because orange oil displays photo-toxicity it can taste bitter and if over ingested, you may feel nauseated, lose your appetite and could possibly vomit. Start small and see how your body reacts. In my own experience in the past I accidently juiced too much of an orange peel and felt terrible! I know now to only use a fraction of what I used before (which was the peel from a small orange). I also thoroughly enjoy adding orange peels in with my baths as they smell so wonderful and make my skin glow for days!
