April 13, 2018; by Briana McDonald (UtopiaSilver.com) We all know summer is right around the corner and if you’re like me walking through the isles of Wal-Mart and Target you may be getting a little nervous if you’re still dealing with the post winter pouch. Have no fear! You can lose weight and keep it off with flaxseed tea! If you enjoy herbal teas, flaxseed tea could be a flavorful option for you. Let’s explore some of the amazing benefits of Flaxseed tea and this teas powerful nutrients and how it helps us to get rid of stubborn belly fat.
Flaxseeds are really high in fiber, but low in carbs which means it’s really going to help you feel full and satisfied. It is also high in anti-inflammatory Omega-3 fatty acids which do wonders for our hearts and brains along with keeping our skin and hair healthy. Flaxseeds when consumed regularly help to lower cholesterol and support digestive health. Some studies have shown that they can even help prevent cancer! (1)
Flaxseeds are chock-full of amazing vitamins and minerals like manganese, thiamine, potassium, zinc, B vitamins, magnesium and rich plant-based protein. Flax is one of the richest sources of plant-based omega-3 fatty acids called alpha-linolenic acid or ALA in the world. (2)
Flaxseeds help us to shed those pesky pounds because of the gel-forming fiber they contain called mucilage gum. It is water-soluble so it can move through the gastrointestinal tract undigested. Once consumed, mucilage from flaxseeds can keep food in the stomach from emptying too quickly into the small intestine which can increase nutrient absorption and make you feel fuller. Due to the fact that the fiber found in flaxseed is not able to be broken down in the digestive tract, some of the calories in the flax will not even be absorbed!
Since flax is low in carbs but extremely high in both types of fiber (soluble and insoluble) it also helps to support detoxification of the colon and can help with fat loss and reduce the cravings of sugar. Adults should aim to consume 25-40 grams of fiber from high fiber foods daily and just 2 tablespoons of flaxseed per day will provide about 20 percent to 25 percent of those fiber needs.
Aids in Hormonal Health
Flaxseeds can help women going through menopause as well and can in fact be used as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy in some cases or as a complementary approach to balancing hormones due to the estrogenic properties that lignans have. It can also help menstruating women by helping to maintain cycle regularity due to it’s ability to balance estrogen. You can consume the tea regularly or you can add a couple of tablespoons of ground flaxseeds into your smoothie each day to help in these areas of your life as well.
Lose Weight and Keep it off with Flaxseed Tea
According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition it was found that flaxseeds and walnuts may improve obesity and support weight loss. (3) This is because it is full of healthy fats and fiber which help you to feel satisfied for longer and will help you to consume fewer calories overall which will lead to weight loss. ALA fats can also help reduce inflammation and help with hormonal balancing which could be standing in the way of your weight loss. An inflamed body naturally tends to hold onto excess weight.
