Milk thistle and its active ingredient Silymarin is a potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, detoxifier, and natural blood sugar regulator that is extracted from the seeds of milk thistle. This antioxidant gives the plant its detoxifying and cell protecting attributes. Silymarin blocks toxins before they can enter cells and flushes out toxins before they can damage the cells. Silymarin may even reduce the effects of chemotherapy and repair liver damage. Although milk thistle has few side effects and is beneficial to most, some people with ragweed, artichoke, kiwi (all aster plant family) allergies may also have an adverse reaction to milk thistle. Discontinue the use of any product containing this herb if with first use you suddenly develop joint pain, headache, insomnia, nausea, stomach cramps or itching, etc.. Do not take if you know or suspect you have an obstructed bile duct or problematic gallstones. If pregnant, nursing or taking prescription drugs, you may want to consult your healthcare practitioner prior to use. Keep out of reach of children.
