is analyzed and the results of all tests are compiled, laboratory
doctors will prepare nutritional, vitamin and mineral recommendations
to help you increase health and energy, or recover from disease.
Your results will be available within 48 hours by fax or e-mail.
The following panels are performed on
the specimen you return to the lab:
URINE DIAGNOSTIC
PANEL: The Diagnostic Panel screens for diseases
of the kidney and the urogenital tract, carbohydrate
metabolic disorders (e.g. diabetes mellitus), liver diseases,
and hemolytic disorders. The following results are included
in your report:
1. SPECIFIC GRAVITY
Specific gravity measures the concentration of particles in
a solution (grams/ml). Normal values are between 1.002 to
1.028. Increased urine specific gravity may indicate: Dehydration,
Diarrhea, Excessive sweating, Glucosuria, Heart failure (related
to decreased blood flow to the kidneys), Renal arterial stenosis,
Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion (SIADH),
Vomiting or Water restriction
2. PH
PH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a fluid is, like
blood or urine. Research in Natural Health shows that the
ideal range for healthy individuals is 6.4 for both urine
and saliva. A high urine pH (alkaline urine) may indicate:
Gastric suction, renal failure, renal tubular acidosis, Urinary
tract infection or Vomiting. A low urine pH (acidic urine)
may indicate: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (e.g.,
emphysema), Diabetic ketoacidosis, Diarrhea or Starvation.
3. LEUKOCYTES
Leukocyte esterase is a screening test used to detect an enzyme
that suggests the presence of leukocytes (white blood cells).
An abnormal result indicates a positive test and a possible
urinary tract infection.
4. NITRITES
In addition to the presence of leukocytes, the detection of
nitrite in the urine provides evidence for bacteriuria. Usually
the bacteria found in the urine originate from the digestive
tract. Therefore the most common organism responsible for
urinary tract infections is E. coli. Other uropathogenic bacteria
are, for example, Klebsiella, Salmonella, Enterococcus sp.,
Staphylococcus sp., and Pseudomonas.
5. PROTEIN
Normally, protein is not found in urine. This is because the
kidney is supposed to keep large molecules, such as protein,
in the blood and only filter out smaller impurities. Even
if small amounts of protein do get through, they are normally
re-absorbed by the body and used as a source of energy. Abnormal
results may mean an increase in urine protein, and this may
indicate: Amyloidosis, Bacterial pyelonephritis, Bladder tumor,
Congestive heart failure (inadequately perfusing the kidneys),
Diabetic nephropathy, Glomerulonephritis, Goodpasture's syndrome,
Heavy metal poisoning, Lupus erythematosus, Malignant hypertension,
Multiple myeloma, Nephrotic syndrome, Nephrotoxic drug therapy,
Polycystic kidney disease and Preeclampsia.
6. GLUCOSE
This test is most commonly used to screen for possible diabetes.
Most dietary carbohydrates end up as glucose in the blood.
Glucose is a major source of energy for most cells of the
body. Some cells (for example, brain and red blood cells)
are almost totally dependent on blood glucose as a source
of energy. Abnormal results producing greater-than-normal
levels may indicate: Diabetes mellitus and Renal Glycosuria.
7. KETONES
Ketones (beta-hydroxybutyric acid, acetoacetic acid, and acetone)
are the end- product of rapid or excessive fatty acid breakdown.
As with glucose, ketones are present in the urine when the
blood levels surpass a certain threshold. Fatty acid release
from adipose tissue is stimulated by a number of hormones
including glucagon, epinephrine, and growth hormone. The levels
of these hormones are increased in starvation (whether related
to excess alcohol use or not), uncontrolled diabetes mellitus,
and a number of other conditions. A positive test may indicate:
Metabolic abnormalities, including uncontrolled diabetes or
glycogen storage disease, Abnormal nutritional conditions,
including starvation, fasting, anorexia, high protein or low
carbohydrate diets, Protracted vomiting, including hyperemesis
gravidarum, Disorders of increased metabolism, including hyperthyroidism,
fever, acute or severe illness, burns, pregnancy, lactation
or post-surgical condition.
8. UROBILOGEN
See Bilirubin. Urobilogen is a product of Bilirubin.
9. BILIRUBIN
This test evaluates liver and/or gallbladder problems. Bilirubin
is not normally found in the urine. If the bile ducts are
obstructed, direct bilirubin will build up to a high enough
level that some of it will escape from the liver into the
blood. If the levels are high enough, some of it will also
appear in the urine. Only direct bilirubin appears in the
urine. Increased direct bilirubin usually means that the biliary
(liver secretion) ducts are obstructed. Increased urinary
bilirubin may indicate: biliary strictures, cirrhosis, gallstones
in the biliary tract, hepatitis with associated biliary obstruction,
surgical trauma affecting the biliary tract or tumors of the
liver or gall bladder. Increased direct bilirubin may indicate:
bile duct obstruction, cirrhosis, Crigler- Najjar syndrome
(very rare), Dubin-Johnson syndrome (very rare) or hepatitis.
10. BLOOD IN URINE
Test for Blood in the Urine. Measures the number of red cells
in a given volume of urine. Abnormal results indicating greater-than-normal
numbers of red blood cells in the urine may indicate: Glomerulonephritis,
Interstitial nephritis, Acute tubular necrosis, Pyelonephritis,
Renal trauma, Renal tumor, Renal stones, Cystitis or Prostatitis.
BIOCHEMICAL PANEL: The BCP evaluates several
foundational metabolic parameters in the urine and saliva,
and culminates in an overall health score. This panel also
gives us insight into a wide variety of imbalances that may
result in poor health, including the efficiency of the digestive
tract, urinary tract, liver, cardiovascular system, vitamin
and mineral deficiencies, liver and overall immune health.
Since it is no mystery that death does in fact begin in the
colon, the information gleaned about the digestive tract and
intestinal transit time is a vitally important aspect of this
valuable panel. Optional testing in this panel includes heavy
metal screening and special assessment for metabolic pre-cancerous
conditions and leaky gut syndrome.
The BCP evaluates several foundational metabolic parameters
in the urine and saliva, and culminates in an overall health
score. Many years of clinical experience by a vast number
of health professionals, reveal that a positive health score
indicates good biological health and strong immunity, while
a negative score indicates progressive degeneration, increased
aging and susceptibility to disease.
While most methods of increasing health or treating symptoms
are by “trial and error”, and evaluated based
on whether there is a cessation of symptoms (whether you feel
better or not), this important panel allows us to design an
improvement strategy and then to monitor it’s success
by re-evaluating the health score. This panel also gives us
insight into a wide variety of imbalances that may result
in poor health, including the efficiency of the digestive
tract, urinary tract, liver, cardiovascular system, vitamin
and mineral deficiencies, liver and overall immune health.
Since it is no mystery that death does in fact begin in the
colon, the information gleaned about the digestive tract and
intestinal transit time is a vitally important aspect of this
valuable panel.
Advanced optional testing in this panel includes parasite
and heavy metal screening as well as special assessment for
metabolic pre-cancerous conditions and leaky gut syndrome.
This panel requires a simple urine and saliva sample and requires
just a few minutes of your time in our lab, located at Integrated
Medical. If it is not convenient for you to visit us, we can
send a complete lab kit to your home by mail. You simply provide
samples in a special container and return them to us and your
results are available in a few days.
Below is an overview of results:
Carb/Sugar level: This factor is an evaluation
of the “total” sugar or carbohydrates in a urine
specimen rather than glucose alone. Evaluating all carbohydrates
is much more revealing than assessment of only glucose, and
provides insight into a wide range of factors affecting health.
A perfect score for this factor is 1.5: if your score falls
outside this you are likely experiencing fluctuations in blood
sugar and likely recurring hypoglycemic (low blood sugar)
episodes . Scores in excess of 5.0 may indicate pre- diabetic
conditions.
Urine pH: Metabolic research over
many years indicates that the perfect pH, for both urine and
saliva is 6.4. Vitamins and minerals are absorbed efficiently
at this pH. Urine pH, together with saliva pH provide insight
into intestinal transit time, which also affects nutrient
uptake and colon congestion. Monitoring and keeping urine
and saliva at 6.4 is one of the more important things you
can do to maintain good health.
Saliva pH: Saliva is lymph fluid
and the lymphatic system is your “other” circulatory
system. Lymph fluid carries nutrition to the cell and waste
out. Saliva gives us insight into how well your body is transporting
and utilizing nutrition, while urine provides insight into
how efficiently you are eliminating waste. Together these
are very powerful indicators of health.
Conductivity (salts) levels: Not
to be confused with sodium alone, this factor provides insight
into accumulated mineral salts or proteins in body fluids
as well as electrolyte balance. A perfect number has been
determined to be 7. If you are under this you are likely low
in electrolytes and certain minerals. Scores in excess of
7 are indicative of mineral imbalances, lymphatic stasis (blocked
lymph flow), dehydration, high blood pressure, kidney stress,
high cholesterol and other important health issues. An imminent
research scientist and medical doctor from the past, reportedly
used this factor to successfully predict the likelihood of
stroke or heart attack. Research indicates that scores in
excess of 25 should be aggressively lowered.
Cell Debris levels: Also known as
Albumin, this factor reveals dead cells being thrown off or
eliminated by the body. We are continually replacing dead
cells with new one’s. The “perfect” number
varies according to the overall status of health. While a
score of 4M may be appropriate then all other factors are
normal, a score of 4++ may be appropriate for a seriously
ill individual. We use this factor only to determine if dead
cells are being eliminated in accordance with the overall
health status.
Nitrate/Nitrogen: Perfect score
is 3. Scores in excess may indicate a wide range of health
issues, including how well the body is handling proteins,
as well as overall liver function.
Ammonia: Perfect score is 3.
Presence of Parasites: A research
based assessment that determines the likelihood of parasitic
infestation within the digestive and other organ systems.
Negative is the preferred score.
Heavy Metal Screen: This screen
will determine if heavy metals are present in the urine but
will not reveal the particular metal. The preferred score
is negative.
CarcinoChrome Reaction: This is
one of the earliest known test for cancer, and has been recently
revived. We use this test as a screening to determine whether
adequate degenerative conditions exist that may result in
cancerous conditions. This provides a “heads up”
for how aggressively we should act to detoxify the body and
improve health conditions.
Putre Chrome Reaction: This factor
gives insight as to whether you may be experiencing a condition
known as “leaky gut”. This simply means that holes
or openings are present within the intestinal tract, allowing
food particles to escaper into the lymph and blood systems.
Such condition leads to considerable and serious health issues.
It is this panel that forms the basis for helping increase
the level of your health, the natural way and before health
deteriorates to disease.
Notice: This panel is not established as CLIA approved or
Waived testing, and is performed solely on the basis of research.
Nothing herein is intended, nor used to diagnose disease,
or for any purpose other than to take advantage of the efforts
of a vast number of health professionals over many years,
to aid in identifying and correcting metabolic factors that
may be indicative of health status. Naturopathic medicine
attempts to study and correct the underlying imbalances that
may be expressed as disease, whereas conventional medicine
focuses primarily on the “expression” of such
underlying imbalances. The information below is offered to
those wishing to evaluate such underlying imbalances and to
embark upon a health improvement protocol in an effort to
avoid degeneration and disease.
Utopia Silver Supplements only provides
access to this service by selling the test kit. We do not
