Natural Body Odor Remedies
If your body odor persists despite good hygiene,
your problem may be clogged pores. Odors are generally caused
by body toxins and/or bacteria. When your skin can't properly
eliminate body wastes, bad body odor can result. Gently dry-brushing
your skin just before every shower exfoliates the dead skin that
traps those odor-causing wastes. You'll find body brushes in most
drugstores. If you brush with long, gentle strokes moving toward
your heart, you'll also improve circulation, which should help
your body detoxify more efficiently. (This won't eliminate your
need for deodorant, but you may be able to use less of it.)
A change in live style and diet may also be very
important for this problem as it is with any physical issue. One
should drink an average of 64 ounces of un-chlorinated (and preferably
un-fluorinated) water per day. Water is essential for the body
to effectively eliminate wastes and toxins from the blood and
the cells. The wrong kinds of foods can exacerbate body odor.
Processed sugar and junk food are more conducive to toxin build
up in the body cells and liver. One should eat plenty of fresh
fruit and vegetables and a modest amount of red meats. Exercise
is also important to achieve maximum blood flow and to sweat,
which is not only a cooling mechanism, but is a toxin elimination
process.
• Liver
Cleanse and a Whole
Body Cleanse. The liver, which is the body’s primary
filter for toxins, should be cleansed periodically, two to four
times per year, just as you would change or clean the oil and
gas filter on your automobile. A more general whole body cleanse
is also helpful 2-3 times per year.
• Colloidal
Silver. Colloidal Silver is an effective deodorant, applied
topically under the arms, on the crotch, and sprayed on the feet
kills bacteria on contact and bacteria is generally the cause
of odors. It is also an effective footwear odor deterrent when
sprayed on the boot and shoe liners. One may need to make 2-3
applications at a time, allowing each application to dry before
applying the next. This is very effective in reducing footwear
odor if done once a week. (Note: Colloidal silver with heavy and
frequent use may cause some staining of light colored cotton materials
if it is not allowed to dry before dressing.)
• Zinc.
Ann Landers once wrote " Don’t stink, think Zinc. Take
two 50 mg tablets twice a day for a week. Most times one week
works, if not, take once a day after the first week till all strong
odors are gone. Do not use more than 50 mg. Zinc per day for more
one week at a time.
• Mineral salts. A product available at
health food stores is called "Thai Crystal" deodorant
stone. You wet it and apply it just like deodorant! The mineral
salts kill the bacteria that cause odor. It is reported to work
very well.
• Potato. Cut a potato into four slices.
Make sure your underarm is clean and dry! Wipe the potato under
each arm a few times, and wait for it to dry. Afterwards, apply
your regular deodorant or colloidal silver.
Natural Cough Remedies
• Honey
is an excellent cough suppressant and has no negative side effects.
• Colloidal
Silver. Use colloidal silver with a sprayer to coat the back
of the throat which will give some soothing relief. A mist sprayer
filled with colloidal silver and inhaled can also give relief
as well as kill the germs in the throat that are causing the problem.
• Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) may be best
known as a candy, but as a tea it can lick a lingering cough.
Steep a licorice root tea bag or one teaspoon of the loose dried
root in one cup boiling hot water for five minutes, and drink
up to three mugs of it throughout the day. Your cough should improve
right away, but you can continue to drink three cups a day for
up to three days. Licorice can raise your blood pressure, so don't
drink it if you have hypertension or diabetes.
• Soak almonds overnight. Remove their skin.
Make a paste of these almonds with little butter and sugar. Very
useful for a dry cough.
• Hot tea with lemon and raspberry jam,
drink as much as possible
• Wild cherry cough syrup and decongestant.
Cover the bottom of a crock pot with wild cherry bark. Add enough
honey to cover the bark. Set the crock pot at the lowest setting,
then cover. Let the mixture cook for two days, stirring every
now and then. After two days, strain the mixture and use the resultant
syrup as cough syrup and/or decongestant.
• Drink hot milk with honey at bedtime for
cough relief
• If you can get herbal cough syrup made
from yarrow extract, do so!
• An odd sounding remedy that works is this
one: Take one tablespoon of Butter sprinkle with raw on-bleached
sugar and eat it. Sounds odd, but often does the trick.
Natural Cavities, Teeth Care & Whitening Remedies
• Bicarbonate of soda. (Not baking soda.)
Use it to brush your teeth, follow with dental floss and then
use a toothpaste that does not contain fluoride. Fluoride is a
poison to be avoided at all cost. See this week’s Featured
Articles.
• Colloidal
Silver. One of the best things to use for cavity prevention
is colloidal silver which kills bacteria on contact. After brushing
your teeth, simply rinse your teeth at night with a teaspoon of
colloidal silver, squishing the liquid silver back and forth between
your teeth and then swallow it afterwards to get your daily silver
mineral supplement.
• Strawberries. Mash a few strawberries
in a bowl until you achieve a paste-like consistency and use this
to brush your teeth, just as you would toothpaste. Be sure to
follow with non-fluoride toothpaste.
• Fresh crunchy veggies. Eating fresh crunchy
veggies and fruits such as: carrots, broccoli, celery, apples,
strawberries, and cucumbers can help clean as well as whiten your
teeth.
• Hydrogen Peroxide. This is not only a
good whitener, but an anti-bacterial agent. Before brushing your
teeth rinse them as with the silver with a small capful of peroxide,
concentrating it on your teeth (don't swallow), and rinse thoroughly
with water. You may dilute the peroxide 50-50 with water if you
cannot stand it full strength. You should see whiter results within
a few weeks.
• Notes: Do NOT use lemon or baking soda,
as these can damage your teeth, as any dental professional can
tell you. Most teeth whitening methods should not be continued
for prolonged periods or the enamel may be damaged. Also, remember
that any food or beverage that can stain a white t-shirt, can
stain your teeth.
Natural Bladder and Kidney Infection Remedies
• Colloidal
Silver. Silver is a powerful natural anti-biotic used throughout
the history of Mankind to preserve water and milk as well as to
make storage and eating utensils. Bacteria and other one-celled
organisms will not grow in the presence of silver. For bladder
infections, take a couple of tablespoons twice a day for several
days. If using for a longer period, Acidophilus or live culture
yogurt should be used in between the silver use.
• One teaspoon of olive oil and one teaspoon
of garlic juice mixed in a glass of warm water. Drink three times
a day, before meals. Pure garlic juice is effective in killing
off the bacteria responsible for many bladder infections.
• Calcium
& Magnesium. Reduces bladder irritability and aids in
the stress response to infection.
• Pau D'Arco tea. Try to find Pau D'Arco
tea in loose leaf. It is the inner bark of a tree that grows in
South America. Pour boiling water over a tablespoon and let it
steep for about 15 minutes. Drink this three times a day in conjunction
with other remedies. This works for a variety of illnesses as
Pau D'Arco has antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal properties.
• Vitamin
C. Produces antibacterial effect through acidification of
urine and important in immune function.
• Asparagus. Take about 5 or 6 asparagus
stalks and boil them in water until very soft. Eat them all and
also drink the juice. As an alternative, eat a whole can of canned
asparagus and drink the juice. Do this every one to two days and
the infection should be gone within a week.
• Drink cranberry
and/or pomegranate
juice along with one of the above remedies.
• Alka-Seltzer, water. Take a glass of water,
add Alka-Seltzer (follow instructions on thebox.)
• Apple cider vinegar. One tablespoon of
apple cider vinegar mixed with water and ice makes a tangy drink
that is good to drink every day to keep you free from infection.
Also an excellent diuretic.
• Garlic. A natural antibiotic and immune
system enhancer.
• Parsley Leaf Tea. Take a bunch of parsley
leave and boil in water for a few minutes. Let stand until cool
then drink. You want to make about a liter of this stuff and drink
the whole thing. Don't add sugar!!
• Zinc.
Important in tissue repair and immunity.
• Drink plenty of water to flush the infection
toxins from your bladder and body in general.
Natural Ear Ache or Infection Remedies
• Ease the pain and pressure of an ear infection with a
store-bought blend of mullein (Verbascum densiflorum) and garlic
(Allium sativum) infused oils. These oils kill pain and fight
bacteria. Before bed, warm the drops. One way to do that is by
placing the bottle in your armpit for 45 seconds. Tilt your head
and squeeze 5 drops into the infected ear and then place a cotton
ball in your ear for a few minutes to keep the drops from running
out. You should experience immediate relief.
• Make garlic oil: chop one to two bulbs of fresh garlic.
Place the garlic in a double boiler, and cover with an inch of
olive oil. Cover the pot, and warm the oil gently over low heat
for one hour. Strain the oil through a piece of cheesecloth, and
store it in a covered glass jar in the refrigerator. To use the
garlic oil, place a small amount in a metal spoon and heat it
gently over a flame until warm. Suction the oil up into an ear
dropper, place a couple of drops into each ear canal, and plug
the canal with a soft cotton ball. Repeat this every hour or as
needed. Do not use garlic oil to treat an external ear infection
or if you suspect a punctured eardrum.
• Garlic, Apple Cider Vinegar, Honey, Eye Dropper, Warm
Towel or Pad. Cut two to three cloves of garlic(fresh)into a bowl.
Slice it in half real good so the juice comes out. Pour in about
a teaspoon and a half of vinegar and melt in a little honey, not
a lot(can heat it up warm if you prefer). Get an eye dropper and
make sure you stir the substance up real good. Take that eye dropper
and suck up a little solution at a time and put it in the ear.
Let it sit for about a few seconds and drain it out. After draining
it a few times the ear should draw out and reduce the pain. Add
a warm to mildly hot pad or towel.
• Another garlic oil remedy is to take garlic gel capsules
and pierce the capsules to squeeze 4-6 drops in each ear. Garlic
has a natural antibody called allicin. Repeat two to three times
daily. Also take some of the capsules orally. You should see marked
improvement in two to three hours and near complete resolution
in 24 hours.
• Cut an onion in half. Take the outer layer of 1 to 2 of
the onion and put it over a flame and then put enough oil inside
this outer layer to wet a cotton ball. Put this cotton ball in
the ear once or twice for one day. (from Mexico)
• Bengay, Cotton Swabs Remedy - Take a cotton swab and smear
a small amount of Bengay on it and stick it in the aching ear.
(get the odorless kind, it just smells better) Change to a new
swab of it every 15-20 minutes. This remedy works well and is
an instant pain killer.
• Extract one teaspoon juice from mango leaves. Slightly
warm and use as ear drops for ear infection.
• For a person who has had (ever) a perforated or punctured
eardrum, follow the above procedures without adding drops inside
the ear canal to achieve much of the healing and pain relief.
• People that get a lot of ear infections might actually
be allergic to dairy products, egg whites, wheat, peanuts or soy.
Or, their intake of fatty foods may be too high.
Ear Ringing
• While standing, roll the head in a complete circle three
times clockwise and three time counter clockwise. Bend the neck
left and right three times, and forward and back three times.
Do this every day faithfully. In a few days there will normally
be a popping sound in the neck, the ringing should subside, and
finally never return again.
Ear Wax
• Water Pic, hydrogen peroxide, and rubbing alcohol. Fill
water pick with warm water (not hot!) and a splash of the hydrogen
peroxide. Put a cup under ear to catch the water mixture. Turn
the Water Pic on the lowest setting and then squirt in the ear,
slowly turning up the setting. This may be a bit uncomfortable,
and caution should be used in not turning the setting too high
or you could damage or even rupture your ear drum. After you have
removed the wax (you will likely be surprised at how much comes
out),
rinse the ear with plain water, drain and then put a couple of
drops of alcohol in each ear
to dry out.
Natural Allergy Remedies
Allergy is the result of your immune system's
over-reaction to pollens, grass, airborne fungi and even certain
foods and cosmetics. With more than 60,000 chemicals already existing
in our environment, and nearly 500 new ones being created annually,
we also face biochemical challenges to our immune system. When
an allergen is introduced, the body fights back by producing an
excess of inflammatory chemicals, such as histamine, from mast
cells. This attempt to seek-and-destroy the allergen brings on
the familiar symptoms of runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.
Antihistamines merely block the action of histamine at receptor
sites. In other words, they suppress the appearance of physical
symptoms but do nothing to redirect the underlying cause.
Antihistamines also often produce undesirable
side effects, such as dizziness, drowsiness and even depression.
The good news is that there is a better way to treat inflammatory
disorders.
• One of the mechanisms involved in an allergic
response is the release of leukotrenes, an agent which can restrict
bronchial tubes up to 1,000 times greater than can histamine.
The production of leukotrienes is made possible by the presence
of arachidonic acid, a fatty acid found exclusively in animal
products. Therefore, during serious bouts with allergies, you
may want to assume an all vegan diet, or at least consider reducing
your consumption of meat and dairy products.
• There's another good reason to forego
the meat in favor of the salad - flavonoids. Flavonoids (sometimes
called bioflavonoids) are a group of compounds that give many
fruits and vegetables their color. Of these, quercetin is the
most widely distributed among the plant kingdom and effectively
inhibits leukotriene and histamine release from mast cells. In
addition to getting enough raw fruits and vegetables in the diet,
you may take quercetin in supplemental form.
•
Colloidal Silver: Colloidal silver can be very effective in
reducing allergies caused by bacteria, molds and fungus as well
as cold and viruses. It will not prevent allergies caused by food,
cat hair or pollen, but can reduce the infection from most allergies
in general.
• Nettle (Urtica dioica): Nettle has enjoyed
a long history as a treatment for seasonal allergies. Dr. Andrew
Weil, author of Natural Health, Natural Medicine (Houghton Mifflin,
1998) reports success with this herb to treat his own allergies.
Be careful not to confuse this herb with another species, U. Urens,
which contains high levels of leukotrienes and histamine.
• Ephedra (Ephedra sinicia): Also known
as mahuang, the generic name of this herb may be familiar since
a synthetic version of its primary alkaloid, ephedrine, can be
found in many conventional remedies as pseudo ephedrine. This
herb has been used to treat bronchial and inflammatory disorders
in Chinese medicine for more than 5,000 years. In fact, ephedra
is often used to treat asthma.
Note: Ephedra can raise both systolic and diastolic
blood pressure and can cause excitability in some individuals.
• Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea): Also known
as purple coneflower, this Native American herb is one of the
best immune enhancing supplements you can take. Echinacea has
been the subject of more than 50 years worth of study and has
clearly demonstrated an ability to increase the production of
a number of T-cells and their distribution in the blood.
• Garlic (Allium sativum): The antiviral
properties of garlic have been well examined for many years. In
Russia, the herb is known as "Russian penicillin" where
it was once used to treat respiratory disorders in hospitals.
Recent Japanese studies have found that aged garlic extract stimulates
NK activity and a potent antimicrobial action against bacteria
and yeasts. Garlic owes its efficacy to allicin, a byproduct derived
from the amino acid alliin reacting with the enzyme alliinase.
The biosynthesis of these constituents however, can be unstable
in their natural state. Raw garlic is certainly good for you and
has several health benefits to offer otherwise, but the enzyme
necessary to produce allicin is usually destroyed in the stomach
before the conversion can take place. For this reason, entericcoated
tablets of dried or powdered garlic tablets is the best form of
upplementation to take advantage of this herb's immune-boosting
qualities.
Note: Garlic and other alliums can raise or lower
blood sugar levels. Consult your health care practitioner if you
are diabetic or hypoglycemic.
• Apple cider vinegar, water and honey.
Put two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in an eight ounce glass
of water. Sweeten with locally produced honey and drink hot or
cold.
Natural Anemia Remedies
Anemia is either a reduction in the number of
red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin in the blood, which
results in a decrease in the amount of oxygen that the blood is
able to carry to the body’s cells. It is not a disease,
but a symptom of various diseases. There are a few things that
can be done to alleviate these symptoms, but the underlying cause
would still need to be addressed.
• Avoid drinking regular tea (not herbal
varieties) and coffee immediately after meals, as the tannin present
in these interferes in the absorption of iron from the food.
• Drink a cup of herbal tea mixed with 1/4
cup blackstrap molasses each day. This provides 80% of the iron
needed in one day.
• Folic
Acid and Vitamin B12 are essential for red blood cell formation.
• Trace
minerals along with Zinc
are essential in the production of red blood cells.
• Foods high in iron: lean beef, lean pork,
skinned poultry, shellfish, fish, liver, organ meats, egg yolks,
pinto, kidney, lima, navy, chick peas, black-eyed peas, lentils,
split peas, green peas, spinach, kale, collards, beet greens,
chard, broccoli, raisins, prunes, figs, dates, dried peaches,
dried apricots, nuts, peanut butter, whole grain breads.
• Your body absorbs iron from meats easier
than fruits and vegetables. To aid in the absorption of iron from
fruits and vegetables, eat them with a good source of vitamin
C.
Natural Bad Breath/Halitosis Remedies
• Colloidal
Silver: Silver is a natural antibiotic historically used for
eating utensils because of its’ antibacterial effect and
can reduce bad breath caused by bacteria in the mouth and around
the teeth and gums. It can get rid of Peridontal Disease and even
reduce cavities with daily rinsing.
• Probiotics
& Acidophilus:
Really bad breath may be caused by something intestinal. In that
case, try probiotics. Recommended by Amish herbalists, it can
sometimes work wonders, but you may have to keep taking them.
• Baking soda/Bicarbonate Soda: Brush your
teeth with a little pinch of the soda, using a regular tooth paste
after and it should stop the bad breath from coming through. What
I personally try and do is, brush my teeth with the soda in the
morning and in the evening, floss (properly), brush with regular
tooth paste, rinse and then rinse again using lukewarm water and
salt. To maintain a healthy gum and fresh breath means investing
a bit of time flossing and cleaning properly (a good five minutes)
twice and day - morning and evening.
• Zinc:
Zinc has an antibacterial effect and neutralizes sulfur compounds,
a common cause of halitosis.
• Parsley: No other natural remedy freshens
bad breath as well as parsley. This herbal food garnish is rich
in chlorophyll, a green plant compound that kills the bacteria
that cause bad odor. Nibble on a sprig or chew some leaves after
eating raw onions or garlic or whenever your breath smells sour.
• Tea tree oil: Put a few drops on your
toothbrush along with your toothpaste and/or put just enough in
your un-waxed dental floss container to coat all the dental floss.
• Use a tongue scraper. Often, it is the
bacteria that collects on the tongue that is the cause of bad
breath.
• Chew some cardamom seeds to sweeten your
breath.
• Add the juice of half a lemon to a glass
of water & use as a final rinse after brushing and flossing
your teeth.
• Cinnamon: Capsules of cinnamon can
also freshen the breath, as well as aid the absorption of other
supplements.
Natural Age/Liver Spot Remedy
contributed
by Tony Isaacs and Ben Taylor
These spots are a result of the build up of wastes known as lipofuscin
accumulation, a byproduct of free radical damage to skin cells.
Although these brown spots in themselves are harmless, they can
be a sign of more serious underlying problems. These spots are
actually signs that cells are full of the type of wastes that
slowly destroy the body’s cells, including brain and liver
cells. They are a surface sign of free radical intoxication of
the body that may affect many internal structures as well, including
the heart muscle and the retina.
There are many factors that lead to the forming
of age spots, including poor diet, inadequate liver function,
smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, the ingestion
of oxidized oils over a period of time, and excessive exposure
to the sun. Most people who have significant numbers of age spots
have had excessive sun exposure. The formation of lipofuscin is
also associated with a deficiency of a number of important nutrients,
including chromium, selenium, glutathione, vitamin E, and dimethyl
aminoethanol (DMAE). Alcohol consumption in particular increases
lipofuscin formation. One study found that animals fed alcohol
had twice the amount of lipofuscin on their brain cells as
animals not given alcohol in the control group.
• Plant
derived minerals are used in some of the cosmetic industry’s
high end cosmetics. Utopia
Naturals Soaps are made with plant derived minerals, aloe
vera and colloidal silver or colloidal gold.
• Apply vitamin E oil directly to age spots
daily to reduce coloration of age spots
• The white milk or sap from a fig or a
fig leaf is an old folk remedy used to remove age spots, warts,
and skin cancer.
HERBS
• Burdock, milk thistle, and red clover
aid in cleansing the bloodstream.
• Ginkgo
biloba improves circulation and is a potent antioxidant.
• Emu oil has shown good results on brown
spots.
• Other herbs beneficial for age spots include
ginseng, green tea, and licorice.
Caution: Ginseng and licorice can elevate blood
pressure. Do not use them if you have high blood pressure.
RECOMMENDATIONS
• Limit sun exposure.
• Do a liver
cleanse in conjunction with a colon
cleanse or a whole
body cleanse. A properly functioning liver and a clean colon
are important.
• Do a fasting program to cleanse the liver
and rid the body of toxins.
• Avoid caffeine, fried foods, saturated
fats, red meat, processed foods, sugar, and tobacco.
• Diet high in vegetable protein, consisting
of 50 percent raw vegetables and fruits, plus fresh grains, cereals,
seeds, and nuts.
• Abstain from animal protein from the diet
for at least one month.
• Apply lemon juice morning and night, but
discontinue if there is sign of irritation.
• Cleanse your skin with pure olive oil
and a warm wet washcloth, and then rinse with lemon juice and
water. Do not use cleansing creams, especially hydrogenated, hardened
creams.
• Use black radish extract or dandelion
root and beet juice along with three days of fasting a month with
distilled water and fresh lemon, fruit, and vegetable juices.
Natural Angina Remedies
contributed by Tony
Isaacs
(Always see a physician if you are having heart pain.)
Vitamin/Nutrition Therapy for Angina
• Calcium
1,500 to 2,000 mg daily - Essential for the proper functioning
of the cardiac muscles. Calcium provides the ability for muscles
to contract.
• Magnesium
- 750-1,000 mg daily. Also essential for the proper functioning
of the cardiac muscles. Magnesium provides the ability for muscles
to relax.
• Potassium-
Also essential for the proper functioning of the cardiac muscles.
• Garlic - Lowers blood pressure and thins
the blood.
•
Plant derived minerals- Minerals are the building blocks of
the enzymes that cause everything else in the body to work properly.
• Lecithin granules - 1 tbsp. 3 times daily
- act as the fat emulsifier.
• Take appropriate supplements of L-carnitine
(500 mg twice daily, on an empty stomach. Take with 50 mg vitamin
B6 and 100 mg vitamin C for better absorption and coenzyme Q10
(50-100 mg 3 times daily). L-Carnitine reduces fat and triglyceride
levels in the blood, thus increasing the oxygen uptake and stress
tolerance. Coenzyme Q10 increases the oxygenation of heart tissue.
Studies have shown that it has prevented recurrences in individuals
who had heart attacks.
Herbal Therapy For Angina
• Take two eight ounce glasses of cantaloupe
juice a day. Cantaloupe contains adenosine that may help heart
patients to thin blood and prevent angina attacks.
• Green Tea - may help keep cholesterol
from clogging arteries.
• Garlic - prevent the oxidation of LDL
cholesterol, may prevent the liver from producing excess fat and
cholesterol.
• Hawthorn- dilates coronary blood vessels,
improving the flow of blood to the heart. It also strengthens
the heart muscle and works to help the body rid itself of excess
salt and water.
• Turmeric- lowers blood cholesterol levels
by stimulating the production of bile. It also prevents the formation
of dangerous blood clots that can lead to heart attack.
• Ginkgo
biloba- improves the flow of blood throughout the body. It
is also an antioxidant.
• Alfalfa: Alfalfa leaves and sprouts help
reduce the blood cholesterol levels and plaque deposits on artery
walls.
• Ginger- reduces cholesterol. It also reduces
blood pressure and prevents blood clots.
• Citrin - an extract from the plant Garcinia
cambogia, inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids in the liver.
• Other herbs that are beneficial for cardiovascular
disorders include barberry, black cohosh, butcher's broom, cayenne
(capsicum), dandelion, ginseng, and valerian
root. Caution: Do not use barberry or black cohosh during
pregnancy. Do not use ginseng if you have high blood pressure.
Also avoid the herbs ephedra (ma huang) and licorice, as they
cause a rise in blood pressure.
Diet Therapy for Angina
The principal goals of nutritional therapy for
angina are to improve the blood flow to the heart and the energy
metabolism of the heart so that it requires less oxygen. The first
step is to consume less saturated fat and cholesterol. Magnesium
in your diet will improve the energy metabolism. Include plenty
of leafy green vegetables, such as spinach, kale, mustard greens
and turnip greens. These are good sources of magnesium.
• Studies have shown that when people follow
a diet that includes no animal sources except for skim milk, egg
whites, and low fat yogurt, angina pain diminishes in a few weeks.
• Eat a diet that is well balanced and contains
plenty of fiber. Eat plenty of raw foods. For protein, eat broiled
fish and skinless turkey and chicken, which are low in fat.
• Include in the diet garlic, onions, and
lecithin. They are shown to reduce serum cholesterol levels.
• Add raw nuts (except pea nuts), olive
oil, pink salmon, trout, tuna, Atlantic herring, and mackerel
to your diet. These foods contain essential fatty
acids.
• Do not consume stimulants such as coffee
and black tea that contain caffeine. Also avoid tobacco, alcohol,
chocolate, sugar, butter, too much red meat, fats (especially
hydrogenated oils and animal fats), fried foods, and processed
and refined foods
Caution: These remedies are not meant
to be used as a treatment for heart attack. If you suspect
a heart attack, administer a teaspoon of cayenne pepper in water
or cayenne pepper sauce and seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
A teaspoon or more of cayenne pepper will normally stop a heart
attack in less than a minute.
Natural Asthma Remedies
• Oxy-Gen
is a product comprised of aloe vera and magnesium peroxide and
supports blood absorption of oxygen via the digestive system.
• Mineral deficiencies are very often a component in almost
all physical ailments and your body is able to absorb plant
derived minerals most efficiently.
• Garlic. Press the juice from garlic. Mix 10 – 15
drops in warm water and take internally
for asthma relief.
• Mix onion juice ¼ cup, honey one tablespoon and
black pepper 1/8 tablespoon.
• Mix licorice and ginger together. Take ½ tablespoon
in one cup of water for relief from
Asthma.
• Drink a glass of 2/3 carrot juice and 1/3 spinach juice
three times a day.
• Add 30-40 leaves of Basil in a liter of water. Strain
the leaves and drink the water
throughout the day effective for asthma.
• Wild cherry tree bark. Make tea with the bark and drink
it hot or cold. Add more or less bark to your taste and drink
as you would any tea or other beverage. Drink some every day.
(Native American remedy)
• Eucalyptus oil. Put it on a piece of cotton material (like
a hanky, washcloth or large
cotton ball) or a paper towel and lay it by the bed to inhale
while sleeping. It can also be
put into a vaporizer, or put in hot water, or added to your bath.
It also helps muscle aches and pains.
• Other nutrients essential in supporting proper respiration
are, flaxseed
oil, vitamin
a, vitamin
b complex, vitamin
b12, vitamin
c, vitamin e, Co
Q10, calcium
& magnesium, SamE,
and grapeseed
extract.
• Hot Coffee. It should be hot and as strong as you can
take it. The caffeine may help open your lungs and airways. Don't
put milk or cream in it however because these could cause phlegm
in your throat and make breathing harder.
Natural
Acne Remedies
We all carry, both on the skin's surface and inside our pores,
a safe level of many different types of bacteria. Among those
is a Propionibacterium acnes, or fittingly enough, P. acnes for
short. It likes to live on your skin's surface, but also deep
in your pores. P. acnes can develop into an acne problem if the
stage is set in four ways. The art of the acne cure program lies
in the fact that the four stages of your acne, although treated
concurrently, is handled with its own medication, as if it were
a separate condition, but all work toward eliminating the bacteria
P. acnes.
Although this is not a quick fix and takes six
weeks to complete, this may be the best program. It takes some
diligence, but it is reported that many have had long-term success
following this protocol.
Step 1—Cleaning Away Excess Dead
Cells
The first step in this Acne cure program is to clean off the excess
dead cells from the skin's surface while also killing any bacteria
that may be entrenched there, ready to attack. This step must
not dry out the skin. A good ingredient for this preliminary cleaning
and sanitizing is salicylic acid, a product that is widely available
in commercial brands sold in your drugstore or supermarket. Choose
a salicylic acid product with a 2% concentration. Make sure that
it does not include any other active ingredients, especially glycolic
acid; that will come in the next step. Besides being an excellent
cleanser, it is an anti-inflammatory and a special form of antioxidant.
Gently scrub your affected skin with salicylic acid twice daily
for six weeks. Alternately use colloidal gold and colloidal silver
soaps to wash your skin once a day when you shower.
Step 2—Removing the Clogs in the
Pores
Glycolic acid is a natural food product derived from sugar cane.
It can manage the task of digging down into your skin and loosening
and then removing the "cemented-in" plugs beneath the
skin's surface. When choosing your glycolic acid product, look
for one that has between 8 and 10 percent glycolic acid and contains
no other active ingredients.
Apply the glycolic acid cream in the morning after
the salicylic acid treatment. Leave it on for a few minutes before
rinsing with warm water.
Step 3—Killing the Acne Bacteria
The reason the Acne Cure works is that, in addition to cleaning
the surface of the skin with salicylic acid and loosening many
of the surface "wads" with glycolic acid, it adds a
third vital step, and that is to destroy the P. acnes bacteria
within your pores with an antibacterial agent. We prefer a non-gelatinous/animal
protein based colloidal silver, but benzoyl peroxide (BP) may
be used instead.
Instructions:
1. Run an ice cube over the area you intend to treat.
2. Apply room temperature colloidal silver using a cotton swab
or a mist sprayer cover the affected acne area and allow to dry.
3. OR cool your hand with an ice cube, then apply a small amount
of BP cream evenly across all areas of the skin that show acne.
Then apply cold packs to the area for 10 minutes. Wipe excess
BP off with a dry cloth.
Step 4—Protecting Your Skin
According to this protocol, your acne is hopefully cured after
six weeks, but you will need to keep your skin healthy and this
involves using an herbal based moisturizing cream or soap daily.
We recommend using Utopia
Naturals Colloidal Gold and Colloidal Silver Soaps from Utopia,
Texas. It is best to alternate them every other day. Silver
is an antibacterial mineral and gold
is reputed to enhance the youthful appearance of the skin. Since
there is skin bacteria necessary for healthy skin, rotation of
the silver and gold soaps permit replenishment of a “good
level” of bacteria. Both soaps contain 75 Plant Derived
Minerals to rejuvenate the skin, Aloe Vera to enhance healing
of the skin, along with natural essential oils of Lavender and/or
Juniper. These soaps are made from all natural ingredients and
limestone filtered water from the Edwards Aquifer of the Texas
Hill Country.
Continue the four steps above on a daily basis
for six weeks.
Be sure you drink plenty of water and get plenty of essential
minerals. Plant
Derived Minerals are best, in that the body is able to absorb
100% of them if needed. Rock minerals are not recommended; they
are very difficult to digest; only 5-15% at best can be broken
down and utilized.
Acidophilus
is also useful in helping to prevent acne outbreaks, chromium
picolinate can reduce skin infections and essential fatty acids
(Flaxseed
Oil and Primrose)
supply essential gamma-linolenic acid, needed to keep the skin
smooth and soft, repair tissues, and dissolve fatty deposits that
block pores.
Other Acne Remedies
• Lemon juice, tea-tree oil and aqueous
cream. Before you go to bed, have a bath or a shower, making sure
your face and hair properly to ensure all your pores are unblocked
and there is no gel/hairspray or grease on your hair that will
press against your face while you are in bed. Next, apply to your
face some lemon juice it all over (this will itch for a minute
or two). After that, rub in some pure tea-tree oil – no
need to use too much, as it is powerful stuff. Last, apply some
aqueous cream. Apply to your face like you would icing on a cake,
leaving a thick layer of cream on. Leave this on all night, lying
on your back if you must, or after about half an hour or so, rub
all the cream on your face in. If you want to help the cure along,
eat three kiwifruit every day and about a ¾ cup of raw
carrots. Within a week, acne, spots, zits, redness and light scarring
should improve.
• Oatmeal, vinegar, raspberries, one whole
egg, salt. Take a small bowl, pour some oatmeal into it, pour
about a tablespoon of salt (depends on bowl size n how much oatmeal)
squish up some raspberries and mix the salt, oatmeal, and raspberries
then add a little bit of vinegar - approximately two tablespoons.
Add in the egg and mix up with a spoon until it makes a red, pasty
mix. Wash face with an exfoliating scrub, i.e. apricot scrub or
use a loofah to exfoliate. Steam your clean face. Then apply the
mixture thickly onto face. Immediately you should feel it tingling
and drying up. Leave on for about 30 minutes or until the mixture
is somewhat dry and starts to crumble off. Rinse off with cold
water.
• Lemon Juice, hydrogen peroxide, aspirin,
aloe vera, and echinacea & goldenseal dried herbs or tea.
Mix in a bowl or container the lemon juice, hydrogen peroxide,
a few aspirin and the echinacea w/goldenseal (you can also use
the tea and pour the herbs in the bowl). Mix it together and use
this solution as an astringent. Apply w/ cotton balls or tissue
and leave it on your face to dry. Once it dries, put aloe vera
on your skin. Do this twice daily after you wash your face.
• Fresh Basil Leaves. Take one small handful
of fresh basil leaves. Let the leaves simmer in two cups of water
for about 15 minutes, take the mixture and put it into the refrigerator
to chill, apply the mixture to your face with a cotton ball, you
can apply to the troubled area, or the whole face 2x a day for
one week. Helps to get rid of acne and also helps with any existing
scarring.
• Soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar
and add salt to the cotton ball. Apply to infected area and hold
there for as long as you can. This should instantly reduce the
swelling. Works well for large cystic acne as well.
A common side-effect of zinc deficiency is acne.
If a zinc deficiency is in evidence, a supplements or a multi-vitamin
with zinc should
be taken. Additionally, mineral deficiencies may contribute to
acne and other skin disease. No matter which Remedy you choose,
you should drink at least one liter of water a day to eliminate
toxins from the body and skin.
Another important factor is diet.
Natural
Arthritis Remedies
By Tony Isaacs
Juices
for Arthritis:
• Black cherry juice is good for arthritis. Take
two glasses of this juice twice a day (each glass contains four
ounces of juice diluted with four ounces of water). You can discontinue
this treatment once the pain clears up.
• People with rheumatoid arthritis should include in their
daily diets juices high in the anti-inflammatory nutrients. These
nutrients include beta-carotene (found in parsley, broccoli and
spinach) and copper (found in carrots, apples and ginger).
• Rheumatoid arthritis improves with a glass or two a day
of pineapple juice. Pineapple is a rich source of the enzyme bromelain,
which has strong anti-inflammatory properties.
Other Useful Juices:
• Carrot, celery, and cabbage juice. Add a little parsley.
• Potato juice (If you are not allergic to this.)
• Cherry juice (red).
• Take juice of half a lemon before every meal and before
going to bed.
• Carrot, beet, and cucumber.
• During acute stage, one pint to one quart celery juice
daily.
• Radish, garlic
Caution: Certain juices may cause adverse reactions in people
with osteoarthritis. Avoid citrus fruits, and be careful with
vegetables from the nightshade family, including potatoes, tomatoes,
peppers and eggplant. Citrus seems to promote swelling, and nightshades
contain psyllium alkaloids, which cause problems for some people.
Vitamin and Nutrition Therapy for Arthritis:
• A low-fat, low-cholesterol diet filled with the complex
carbohydrates found in vegetables and grains has been shown to
be very helpful in dealing with many cases of arthritis. This
type of diet reduces the fat in the tiny arteries that supply
blood to the joints, allowing more oxygen and other nutrients
to nourish them.
• Vitamin therapy may relieve certain arthritic symptoms.
Beta carotene (vitamin A) has an antioxidant effect on cells,
neutralizing destructive molecules called free radicals. Vitamins
C, B6, and E, as well as zinc, are thought to enhance collagen
production and the repair of connective tissue. Vitamin C may
also be advised for people taking aspirin, which depletes the
body's vitamin C balance. Niacin (vitamin B3) may also be helpful,
although excessive use may aggravate liver problems.
Other Natural Remedies:
• Alfalfa (Medicago saliva): Alfalfa is a folk
remedy for arthritis in southern Appalachia. Alfalfa tea is rich
with nutritive minerals. We recommend that you do not take the
alfalfa powder; take the tea instead. Alfalfa contains 1-canavanine,
an amino acid that can cause symptoms that are similar to those
of systemic lupus, an autoimmune disease that can also cause joint
pain. Some scientific studies show that these symptoms can occur
in both animals and humans as a result of eating alfalfa. The
amino acid is not present to any significant amount in alfalfa
tea. Place 1 ounce of alfalfa in a pot. Cover with 1 quart of
water and boil for thirty minutes. Strain and drink the quart
throughout the day. Do this for two to three weeks, and then take
a break for seven to ten days before starting again.
• Dilute five drops of essential oil of ginger in 20 drops
of a carrier oil such as wheat germ or almond oil (available from
health shops), and massage into painful areas. Remember that essential
oils should never be taken internally. Boron is an important mineral
for arthritis. It plays a major role in bone health. It helps
the body regulate calcium, keeping it from leaving the body and
weakening the bones. Epidemiological studies from several countries
have shown that in areas where the soil contains more boron and
people are presumably eating boron-rich foods grown in that soil,
there is less osteoarthritis. When boron supplements were given
to hospitalized arthritis patients, some 90 percent reported "complete
remission" of symptoms. Apples, nuts and green leafy vegetables
are good sources of boron. (The Rheumatoid Disease Foundation
suggests that three milligrams of boron, taken daily, may be helpful
in treating osteoarthritis and RA.)
• Black currant seed oil, borage
oil, evening
primrose oil, fish
oil, and flaxseed
oil contain essential fatty acids that increase the production
of anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. Take 500 to 1,000 milligrams
of any of these oils twice daily. It may take several weeks to
notice an improvement in symptoms.
• Bromelain,
an enzyme derived from pineapple, has a notable anti-inflammatory
action. Bromelain can help the body get rid of immune antigen
complex, compounds that are implicated in some arthritic conditions.
It also helps digest fibrin, another compound suspected of being
involved in some types of arthritis. Take 200 to 400 milligrams
three times daily, between meals.
• Celery (Apium graveolens): The remedy of eating
raw or cooked celery seeds or large amounts of the celery plant
to treat rheumatism arrived in North America with the European
immigrants. Using celery to treat rheumatism persists today in
North American professional herbalism. Various parts of the celery
plant contain more than 25 different anti-inflammatory compounds.
And, taken as a food, celery is rich in minerals: A cup of celery
contains more than 340 milligrams of potassium. (A potassium deficiency
may contribute to some symptoms of arthritis.) Dosage: Place 1
teaspoon of celery seeds in a cup. Fill the cup with boiling water.
Cover and let stand for fifteen minutes. Strain and drink. Drink
3 cups a day during an acute arthritis attack.
• Colloidal Silver
may supply effective support against the symptoms of some Arthritis
that are believed to be caused by a virus.
• Colloidal Gold:
Gold has been used to treat the symptoms of Arthritis even by
mainstream medicine. In severe cases gold has been implanted in
the affected joints.
• Coconut. On an empty stomach take three to four
walnuts or one fresh coconut.
• Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate): Magnesium has
both anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties and it can
be absorbed through the skin. Magnesium is one of the most important
of the essential minerals in the body, and it is commonly deficient
in the American diet. A New England remedy for arthritis is a
hot bath of Epsom salts. The heat of the bath can increase circulation
and reduce the swelling of arthritis. Fill a bathtub with water
as hot as you can stand. Add 2 cups of Epsom salts. Bathe for
thirty minutes, adding hot water as necessary to keep the temperature
warm. Do this daily as often as you like. (If you are pregnant
or have cardiovascular disease consult your doctor before taking
very hot baths.)
• Glucosamine.
This is a glucose-based chemical produced naturally in healthy
joints, where it is used to repair and maintain cartilage, and
seems to be effective in reducing arthritic pain, at least in
mild to moderate cases. This compound of the simple sugar glucose
and the amino acid glutamine, has been shown to be an effective
natural means of slowing cartilage breakdown and encouraging cartilage
repair. With continued use, it helps to relieve joint pain and
stiffness. Several studies have shown that glucosamine can be
a more effective pain reliever than ibuprofen for arthritis. Take
500 milligrams of glucosamine three times daily. It may take as
long as six to eight weeks to attain maximum relief. So far, no
adverse side effects have been reported, but it is the subject
of major clinical trials in the US, so we should soon know a great
deal more.
• Ginger (Zingiber officinale) In one study, Indian
researchers gave three to seven grams of ginger a day to 18 people
with osteoarthritis and 28 with rheumatoid arthritis. More than
75 percent of those participating in the study reported at least
some relief from pain and swelling. Even after more than two years
of taking these high doses of ginger, none of the people reported
side effects. Many people drink ginger tea for osteoarthritis.
A ginger compress is also beneficial for arthritis.
• Gelatin has been reported as a successful remedy
for arthritis. Remember, what works for one person may or may
not work for another. This seems to be especially true as regards
arthritis remedies. Keep trying until you find what works the
best for you.
• Licorice acts in the body like cortisone, without
the harmful side-effects. Licorice is believed to enhance the
action of bupleuri. Licorice also has significant anti-inflammatory
and anti-allergy activity. Licorice components are able to bind
to glucocorticoid receptors on cells and exert glucocorticoid-like
effects. It has been used historically in the treatment of inflammation,
allergy, asthma and other conditions that put added stress on
the adrenals. Long-term use of licorice can cause an elevation
of blood pressure. Take 2 capsules daily.
• Oregano (Origanum vulgare). Oregano, is a powerful
antioxidant. The antioxidant activity of oregano and other medicinal
mints is due in large part to rosmarinic acid, a compound with
antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiviral properties.
The antioxidants in oregano may help prevent the cell damage caused
by free radicals. Free radical reactions are probably involved
in inflammation, degenerative arthritis and the aging process
in general. And evidence is accumulating that antioxidants may
help relieve osteoarthritis and RA.
• Pineapple
(Ananas comosus). Bromelain,
a chemical in pineapple, helps prevent inflammation. Athletic
trainers have been reportedly recommending pineapple to athletes
to prevent and treat sports injuries. It is believed to have beneficial
effect on arthritis also.
• Red pepper, Cayenne pepper (Capsicum
spp.) Red pepper interferes with pain perception. The pain-relieving
chemical in red pepper, capsaicin, triggers the body to release
endorphins, nature's own opiates. Red pepper also contains aspirin-like
compounds known as salicylates. Compounds in red pepper can also
help relieve arthritis when you apply the herb to the skin. Researchers
have discovered that you'll get significant pain relief if you
apply capsaicin cream directly to painful arthritic joints four
times daily. In one study of this treatment, the capsaicin cream
reduced RA pain by more than half. Osteoarthritis pain was reduced
by about one-third. Place 1 ounce of cayenne pepper in 1 quart
of rubbing alcohol (a poison not for internal use). Let stand
for three weeks, shaking the bottle each day. Then, using a cloth,
apply to the affected area during acute attacks of pain. Leave
the solution in place for ten to twenty minutes, then wipe clean.
• Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis). Drinking
rosemary tea to treat arthritis is an American folk medicine practice.
The plant's leaves contain four anti-inflammatory substancesearnosol,
oleanolic acid, rosmarinic acid, and ursolic acid. Carnosol acts
on the same anti-inflammatory pathways as both steroids and aspirin,
oleanolic acid has been marketed as an antioxidant in China, rosmarinic
acid acts as an anti-inflammatory, and ursolic acid, which makes
up about four percent of the plant by weight, has been shown to
have anti-arthritic effects in animal trials. Put 1/2 ounce of
rosemary leaves in a 1- quart canning jar and fill the jar with
boiling water. Cover tightly and let stand for thirty minutes.
Drink a cup of the hot tea before going to bed and have another
cupful in the morning before breakfast. Do this for two to three
weeks, and then take a break for seven to ten days before starting
the treatment again.
• Sesame Seeds (Sesame indicum): A remedy for arthritis
from Chinese folk medicine is to eat sesame seeds. One-half ounce
of the seeds contains about 4 grams of essential fatty acids,
175 milligrams of calcium, 64 milligrams of magnesium, and, 0.73
milligrams of copper. Increased copper intake may be important
during arthritis attacks because the body's requirements go up
during inflammation. Grind up 1/2 ounce of sesame seeds in a coffee
grinder and sprinkle on your food at meal- time. You can use this
treatment for as long as you like.
• Manganese.
Many people with arthritis are deficient in this essential trace
element that activates important enzymes and is necessary for
normal skeletal development. Take 5 milligrams twice daily for
one month.
• Methylsulphonylmethane
(MSM), a natural source of sulfur, can help relieve arthritis
pain and maintain joint health. Sulfur is an essential component
of make up connective tissue. Take 500 milligrams three or four
times daily, with meals. Sulfur is naturally found in meat, milk,
poultry and fish.
• Omega-3
fatty acids, found in many fish, have shown promise in
fighting arthritis. Some 26 osteoarthritis patients ranging in
age from 52 to 85 were given either an omega-3 fatty acid called
EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) or a placebo. Six months later, those
who had received the EP A had less pain and were better able to
perform normal activities, as compared to the placebo group.
• Pantothenic acid, part of the vitamin B complex,
has been shown to help prevent and alleviate arthritis. The connection
between this nutrient and arthritis was made nearly forty years
ago. But there is definitive study that shows precisely how it
works. Many people do find relief from their symptoms with pantothenic
acid. Take 3 g. daily. It will take one to two weeks before you
see any result. If no results are seen in three weeks, discontinue
the supplement. Some physicians recommend up to 12 g. of pantothenic
acid a day, but this should be taken only under your doctor's
supervision.
• S-adenosylmethionine
(SAM or SAM-e) is an amino acid derivative that has been
shown in clinical trials to be comparable in effect to the combination
of glucosamine and chondroitin. Like glucosamine, SAM plays a
role in the formation of cartilage. It also exerts a mild analgesic
effect. In one study, it was shown to be even more effective than
Motrin in treating the pain of arthritis. Try taking it as follows:
o Week 1: Take 400 milligrams three times a day.
o Week 2: Take 400 milligrams twice a day.
o Week 3: Reduce to a maintenance dosage or 200 milligrams twice
a day.
• Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that fights
free-radical damage. Take 200 micrograms of selenium daily. You'll
find selenium in almonds, barley and oranges.
• Shark cartilage may be useful. Each day, take
one 750-milligram capsule per 11 pounds of body weight (or 1 gram
of powder per 15 pounds of body weight), divided into three equal
doses. Once you have achieved relief of pain, reduce the dose
to one 750- milligram capsule per 30 pounds of body weight (or
1 gram of powder per 40 pounds of body weight). See more details
in our shark cartilage page.
• Wild Yam (Dioscorea villosa): Wild yam contains
diosgenin, a steroid constituent with anti-inflammatory properties.
Wild yam tea is a popular folk remedy for muscular rheumatism.
(Some eat the root of the wild yam instead.) Place 1 ounce of
wild yam root in a 1-quart canning jar. Add a few slices of fresh
ginger root. Fill the jar with boiling water, put the lid on tightly,
and let the mixture stand until it reaches room temperature. Drink
2 to 3 cups of the tea each day for three to six weeks, then take
a break for seven to ten days.
• Willow (Salix, various species) Willow bark was
the original herbal aspirin. It contains a chemical called salicin,
which the Bayer Company eventually transformed into aspirin that
so many people with arthritis take daily. Willow bark tea has
pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects similar to those
of aspirin. But because the irritation-causing ingredient in aspirin
tablets is diluted in tea, you'll have less risk of stomach upset,
ulcer and overdose if you take the tea instead of the pills.
• Wintergreen (Gaulteria procumbens): Wintergreen
was used to treat arthritis by the American Indian tribes. The
plant was accepted in the United States as an official medicine
for arthritis in 1820. The chief active pain-relieving constituent
in wintergreen is methyl-salicylate. This compound can be toxic
when consumed in concentrated wintergreen oil, even when applied
to the skin, so stick with using the dried herb. Place 1 or 2
teaspoons of dried wintergreen leaves in a cup and cover with
boiling water. Cover the cup and let steep for fifteen minutes.
Strain and drink 3 cups a day. Do this for two to three weeks,
and then take a break for seven to ten days before starting again.
• Yucca -Yucca has long been used to reduce arthritic
pain. A double-blind clinical trial indicated a saponin extract
of yucca demonstrated a positive therapeutic effect. It was suggested
that effects were due to indirect effects on the gastrointestinal
flora. It is possible that yucca decreases bacterial endotoxin
absorption thus reducing this inhibition of cartilage synthesis.
• Vitamin
A and the minerals zinc and copper are crucial to the
formation of collagen and connective tissues. Be sure that your
daily multivitamin contains at least the minimum RDA of these.
• Vitamin B6: Many older people are found to be
deficient in B6. The first symptoms of a deficiency include tingling,
pain, and stiffness in the hands. Arthritis patients are recommended
to take a supplement of B6 in addition to the B6 that's in your
recommended daily antioxidant vitamin/mineral supplement.
• Vitamin
B1 and B12: One study found an important relationship
between doses of NSAIDs and vitamins B1 and B12. When administered
to persons with arthritis these two B vitamins enhanced the effectiveness
of the pain killing drugs, allowing for a lower dosage of the
drugs. The effect was seen in as little as seven days. If you
take drugs for pain relief, it would be worth taking vitamins
B1 and B12 to see if they help you reduce your dosage.
• Vitamin C is important for the synthesis of collagen
and the repair of connective tissue.
• Vitamin E protects against muscle-wasting and
is essential in cellular respiration, thus helping remove toxins.
Vitamin E, like the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs used
for arthritis, inhibits the prostaglandins that play a role in
pain. When 50 patients were given either 400 IU of vitamin E or
a placebo, the vitamin E group reported greater pain relief and
had to use less pain medication. In another study, 29 patients
were given either vitamin E or a placebo for 10 days. Then the
groups were switched without their knowledge, so that the vitamin
E group was getting a placebo and the placebo group the vitamin
E for an additional 10 days. The vitamin E produced "good"
pain relief in 52 percent of the patients, compared to 1 percent
for the placebo. Wheat germ, nuts and tomatoes are natural sources
of Vitamin E.
• Choose a product containing mixed tocopherols and start
by taking 200 international units daily, then gradually increase
the dosage until you are taking 400 international units twice
daily, once in the morning and again at bedtime.
• Caution: If you have high blood pressure, limit your intake
of supplemental vitamin E to a total of 400 international units
daily. If you are taking an anticoagulant (blood thinner), consult
your healthcare practitioner before taking supplemental vitamin
E.

Reflux Remedies
By Tony Isaacs
Written

and Herbal Remedies", “Cancer’s Natural Enemy”
and other natural health books and articles.
Prevention and treatment:
• Avoid
spicy foods and any food that bothers you. Below are a few more
things that will help tremendously.
• Don't lie down until at least three hours after eating.
• Sleep with your head at least eight inches higher than
your stomach to let gravity help keep stomach acids from coming
up into your esophagus.
• Don't bend over or do exercises until long after eating.
• Eat six small meals instead of three large meals.
• Don't drink carbonated beverages.
• Cut out fatty foods (they increase the time food remains
in the stomach).
• Quit smoking. Nicotine relaxes the lower esophageal sphincter
(LES).
• Cut out chocolate (it relaxes the LES).
• Don't drink alcoholic beverages (alcohol relaxes the LES).
• Eliminate caffeine (it relaxes the LES).
• Eat properly so you don't develop constipation - that
pushing will also push food or stomach acids upward.
• Lying on your left side can help relieve heartburn by
keeping the stomach below the esophagus and acid-free.
• Avoid stress and anger.
• Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a tall glass
of water, and sip this during your meals.
• Yogurt contains beneficial digestive bacteria, as do acidophilus
capsules . (This also comes in chewable raspberry flavored acidophilus
tablets .)
• Eat dried figs, fresh pineapple*, and dried or fresh papaya.
These foods are loaded with digestive enzymes. Or you could take
digestive enzymes in capsule form. *Pineapple will help most people,
and it bothers some - if it bothers you, eliminate it from your
diet.
Note: Peppermint candy, tea, or essential oil will soothe an upset
stomach, relax the body and so aid in digestion, and relax muscles
to allow the body to get rid of gas. But, peppermint should not
be taken if you have acid reflux or GERD because it relaxes and
weakens the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). When the LES is
relaxed, food and liquid are allowed to come back up.
Remedies
For Poison Ivy and Poison Oak
by Tony Isaacs
Written
and compiled by Tony M. Isaacs, author of "Collected Home
and Herbal Remedies", “Cancer’s Natural Enemy”
and other natural health books and articles.
• Stop the itch of a poison ivy rash and prevent it from
spreading with the following homemade paste: Mix one tablespoon
of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita)
with 1 to 2 cup green clay, and add enough water to form a paste.
Apply the paste liberally to the rash and leave it on for 20 to
30 minutes. Store leftover paste in a tightly sealed jar and reapply
as needed. The remedy soothes the itch by absorbing the irritating
plant oils and drying the rash. It also works for poison oak.
• Hot water and a banana. Take as hot as shower as you can
stand for as long as you can. It will feel good and help relieve
the itching. Then take a banana peel and rub it on the infected
area. The itch should be gone for eight to twelve hours.
• Watermelon. Take watermelon (the rind
and the meat) and glide it over the rash. Let it dry naturally.
Within a day, the condition should improve greatly.
• Baking soda and coffee. First put about
a half a cup baking soda in a bowl and slowly add cool coffee
to make a thick paste. Then apply the paste liberally to the affected
area and allow to dry. The poison will flow out of the blisters
like water.
• Turmeric and lime or lemon juice. Mix
one tablespoon of turmeric spice with roughly equal parts of lime
or lemon juice to form a thick paste. Carefully apply to the afflicted
skin. This remedy stains, and stings ever so slightly, but works
miraculously. For avoiding stains on clothes, furniture or carpet,
use it in the bathtub, so the bright yellow stuff doesn't fall
down and make a mess. Let it sit on your skin for fifteen minutes,
then wipe off excess. Some stain will likely remain. By the next
day you will be astonished at how it the ivy has dried up and
nearly vanished.
• Vick's Vapor Rub. Clean the infected areas
first and then rub Vick's on the areas twice a day to rid infection.
Slightly burns at first. Dries up the infection in one to three
days.
• Bleach. Take regular household bleach
and apply with cotton pads. Burns like crazy but dries up almost
overnight. Never apply a strong bleach solution to open wounds,
as it may cause a chemical or allergic reaction that results in
permanent scarring.
• Poke salad root. Boil the root of a poke
salad plant until it turns into a paste form. It will have a strong
odor. Then, once it has cooled enough not to scald, rub it on
the infected area until you can feel it "burn or sting".
It should neutralize the poison ivy overnight.
• Dishwashing liquid. Rub dishwashing liquid
onto skin area and within 15 to 20 minutes the itch should disappear.
Do not wash off until the next morning and then reapply. Within
a couple of days the skin area should clear. This is also good
for mosquito bites.
• Burdock roots. Make a strong tea with
burdock roots and apply to the skin. Let it dry and re-apply as
often as needed. It relieves the itching immediately.
• Hemorrhoid ointment or liquid Blistex.
Smear it on the areas affected to relieve itching and clear up
within 24 hours or so.
• Potato. Blend a potato in blender until
it becomes a rough pasty blob. Put it on some plastic wrap and
wrap it around affected area. Plastic wrap works better than towels.
If you are treating your face poke two holes for nostrils so you
can breathe. Leave it on for an hour or so, and the next day the
bubbles should be gone and the skin should turn yellowish and
start flaking off. It will probably still itch but should itch
much less, and the itching should soon go away. Rub the affected
areas to remove excess, but do not rub too hard or pick at the
affected areas. Use vitamin E or lotion to help the new skin look
and feel better.
• Peachtree leaves. Get some leaves from
a peach tree, boil them and then let the water cool. Take a cotton
ball and apply the liquid to the affected areas. Works almost
overnight and should be almost completely clear within two-three
days.
• Oatmeal. Run a warm bath and fill an old
sock with oatmeal. While soaking in the tub, take the sock of
oatmeal and gently rub it all over the affected areas.
• Clear fingernail polish. Can be used to
coat the affected areas to prevent spreading and lessen itching.
• Colloidal Silver is an excellent anti-bacterial
product that will reduce inflammation from scratching. Simply
apply directly to the affected area.
• Colloidal Gold is reputed to have
soothing and healing properties on the skin and is in fact used
in some the world’s high end cosmetics as an anti-aging
component.
